Dr. Elena Bacash, Chiropractor
Dr. Elena Bacash, Chiropractor is an experienced practitioner of the Pregnancy Webster Technique. This technique is used to balance the sacrum and sacroiliac joints as well as ligaments and muscles around the pelvis during pregnancy.
‘The Webster technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ sacroiliac joint dysfunction. In so doing neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is improved.’ (ICPA- International Chiropractic Paediatric Association)
The Webster Technique reduces nervous system stress, balances pelvic bones, muscles & ligaments, and optimises the mother’s pelvic function in pregnancy and birth.
A study published in the July/August 2002 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT) shows that the "Webster Technique" used to manage the musculoskeletal causes of intrauterine constraint.

History of the webster technique
The Webster Technique was created over 30 years ago, by Dr. Larry Webster to address sacral subluxation through Chiropractic adjustments. The technique was taught by Dr. Webster incorporating a specific sacral analysis, diversified adjustment and soft tissue release. Since then, the Webster Technique has been observed to have a positive impact on the outcomes of pregnancy.
Due to empirical observations that pregnant women who were under Chiropractic care with breech fetal pregnancies were reporting the correction of fetal position following the use of the Webster Technique. It was at that time described as a "breech turning technique". Although this in anecdotal and doesn't happen with every pregnancy, the Webster Technique is now described as:
"The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of subluxation and/or SI [sacro-illiac] joint dysfunction. In so doing neuro-biomechanical function in the sacral/pelvic region is improved."

Frequently asked questions:
When should I start seeing a Chiropractor for Pregnancy?
You can see a Chiropractor all throughout your 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester up until birth. The sooner patients start care, the better and easier it is to maintain pelvic alignment and a pain-free pregnancy. We also recommend post-natal Chiropractic care which can assist with neck and thoracic tension from breastfeeding.
What does Pregnancy Chiropractic Treat?
The Webster Technique targets the joints, muscles and ligaments of and around the pelvis working to create more pelvic girdle space. Chiropractic in pregnancy also targets other issues such as neck pain, headaches, upper and lower back pain.
What will my appointment look like?
During your appointment, your chiropractor, Dr Elena will assess your pelvic alignment and during treatment you will lie on a pregnancy pillow designed with a hole to ensure you and your baby are comfortable and safe. After assessing and adjusting your sacrum, Dr Elena will perform soft tissue releases. Next, you'll be positioned on your back for an assessment/adjustment of your pubic symphysis, followed by additional soft tissue releases. Your appointment will last approximately 30 minutes, so there is ample time taken for your care and comfort. Dr Elena also prescribes exercises based on her assessment.
Who can benefit from Chiropractic during Pregnancy?
All pregnant women can benefit from Chiropractic adjustments during all stages of pregnancy to optimise pelvic function in pregnancy and birth. The use of Chiropractic adjustments during this time can also address any other musculoskeletal pain associated with pregnancy.
Can my baby have a check up after birth and during development?
Yes, Dr Elena very gently assesses and releases dysfunction and stress on the baby’s nervous system and body that may arise from birth. Your baby's nervous system controls movement, feeding, elimination, sleep and development so it can be important to have a check up.
